Singapore officials visit the Incheon Free Economic Zone

clc3

On July 21st, CityNet and Incheon Metropolitan City hosted 36 young and promising government officials from a number of ministries in Singapore, including our partner Center for Livable Cities (CLC), to visit Songdo in Incheon.

Incheon is the first city in South Korea to fully implement the concept of a ubiquitous city or U-City – a city that has ubiquitous information technology.

Songdo is part of the U-City which is also known as the Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) the first designated Economic Zone in South Korea. IFEZ includes Incheon International Airport, Incheon Port, Yeongjong, and Cheongna International City.

The CLC-led delegation gained in-depth information on how the Free Economic Zone was created. During the visit they also learnt about how Songdo improves urban sustainability through their use of advanced IT systems, green energy efforts, and solid waste management best practices.
