Assessing capacity toward City Diplomacy

CityNet invites its members to participate in a study currently carried out by the University of Melbourne Connected Cities Lab and Chicago Council on Global Affairs to assess the capacity to engage in international affairs in global cities.

This study aims to understand how your city formally and informally engages with international agendas, other cities and more-than-local issues, while also determining the impact of these interactions on local governments.

This study builds on a pilot study carried out in 2018 by the Lab and the Council titled “Toward City Diplomacy: Assessing Capacity in Select Global Cites”. Expanding on that analysis, the current research aims to offer even more precise international benchmarking but also capacity building advice for cities to engage internationally in a strategic, cost-effective, and successful manner.

CityNet supports this effort and strongly encourages member cities to consider providing input in the project. The study is completely voluntary and takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.
