CityNet Meets with Kuala Lumpur Mayor Maimunah

On October 8, 2024, the CityNet Secretariat team, led by Ms. Youngmin Chang, Director of Programmes, had the honor of meeting with the newly appointed Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Dato’ Seri TPr Dr. Maimunah Mohd Sharif. Kuala Lumpur holds the prestigious position of First Vice President on CityNet’s Executive Committee, a key governing body of the organization.

During the meeting, the CityNet team warmly congratulated Mayor Maimunah on her recent appointment, acknowledging her leadership as a driving force in advancing Kuala Lumpur’s role as a global city. The Mayor emphasized the critical importance of nurturing human potential and fostering innovative thinking to realize the city’s vision. Drawing on her extensive experience in international organizations, she underscored the significance of cross-border collaboration as an engine for sustainable urban growth.

In exploring future partnerships, Mayor Maimunah extended a formal invitation to CityNet to participate in several of Kuala Lumpur’s key initiatives in 2025. These include the ASEAN Mayors Forum, the Asia Pacific Housing & Urban Development Forum, and the Women-led Cities Initiative. These platforms will further strengthen ties between Kuala Lumpur and CityNet, opening new avenues for knowledge-sharing and collaboration on pressing urban challenges.
