CityNet Recognized with Appreciation Award from the University of Seoul

On August 21st, during the 2023 Global Friends Night event, CityNet Secretariat was honoured to receive the Appreciation Award, celebrating the 10th anniversary of establishing the International School of Urban Sciences (ISUS), at the University of Seoul. Ms. Eunhee Lee, the Director of the Operations team, on behalf of CityNet’s CEO, received the award from Dr. Shin Lee, the Dean of ISUS. This prestigious recognition stands as evidence of our active engagement as a collaborative partner with ISUS, underscoring our significant contributions to global network development.

This memorial occasion brought together ISUS alumni, collaborating organisations like CityNet, and ambassadors from various countries, attracting over 300 attendees. Dr. Yongkul Won, the President of the University of Seoul, delivered an inspiring address, followed by a commemorative speech by Dr. Shin Lee, the Dean of ISUS. Both reaffirmed their commitment to global urban science cooperation and excellence.

CityNet’s dedication to ISUS extends beyond this event. As an Associate Member of CityNet, ISUS students are offered annual internship opportunities during the winter break. These internships provide practical experience building case study databases on the SDG platform, enabling students to apply their academic expertise by linking their learned lessons to potential implications for their respective countries.

Moreover, CityNet is pursuing an online course with the University of Seoul focused on policy intervention for sustainable mobility and waste management measures. The course will be available starting next January for the CityNet member cities. It will be led by Dr. Shin Lee, the Dean of the ISUS, who is renowned for her expertise in urban planning and sustainable development. The course aims to provide insights into urban planning strategies that can positively influence mobility and waste management within urban environments for CityNet member cities.
